An idea born of your need

The idea for Australian Professionals Property Service was conceived in 2001 when a group of Melbourne solicitors approached real estate veteran Paul Doherty to help with a long-standing problem: where to direct their clients to obtain straightforward, unbiased and impartial property advice.

For property sales in particular, these solicitors could at best suggest a time-consuming, roundabout and nerve-wracking process of ringing around agents - getting multiple valuations and averaging them to arrive at realistic estimates – trying to divine the best agent and method of sale – and juggling to keep tabs on the whole sales process.

Many clients found it daunting and frustrating – especially those who needed to take an ‘at arm's length ’ approach to the sale. And these concerned solicitors wanted to help them find an effective, independent alternative that still wouldn’t incur any additional expense.

The birth of Vendor Advocacy

Paul’s solution was the creation of a personalised service that is today widely known as “Vendor Advocacy”. In short, your client deals with one independent property expert, with over 27 years of real estate savvy, who will guide the process (or even manage it in its entirety) and look out solely for your client’s best interests.

The result: a relieved and appreciative client, and assurance that the most appropriate agent is engaged and the best method of sale is used to realise the maximum value for the property.

Paul quickly found that accountants and financial planners too needed a source of expert, impartial help for their clients, and the service was gratefully taken up by a range of professional advisers and their clients.

So in 2004, Paul took the idea he pioneered for one group of smart solicitors, and launched APPS as a member-only service specifically geared to the needs of lawyers, accountants, financial planners and their clients.
